Support at Home funding for mobility equipment
Support at Home is the Australian Government's in-home aged care program, designed to help older Australians live independently at home for longer.
The program can provide eligible participants with access to care and services, as well as assistive technology and home modifications based on their assessed needs.
If mobility equipment forms part of your assessed needs, Motobility can help you explore suitable options, arrange demonstrations and trials, and provide the product information and quotes required to support the process.
Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program and Short-Term Restorative Care Programme on 1 November 2025. CHSP continues separately and is due to transition no earlier than 1 July 2027.
What is Support at Home?
Support at Home replaced the Home Care Packages Program on 1 November 2025.
Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, Support at Home provides funding and services based on an individual's assessed aged care needs, goals and circumstances.
Support can include services to assist with everyday living and independence, clinical care, and access to assistive technology and home modifications.
What happened to my Home Care Package?
If you were already receiving a Home Care Package before Support at Home commenced, transitional arrangements apply. Existing participants moved into Support at Home with arrangements designed to recognise their previous HCP funding and unspent funds.
If you're unsure what applies to you, your aged care provider can explain your individual funding arrangements.
Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM)
Support at Home includes a dedicated Assistive Technology and Home Modifications (AT-HM) scheme.
Importantly, AT-HM funding is separate from your ongoing Support at Home services budget. This means eligible participants don't need to save their regular Support at Home budget over time to purchase approved assistive technology.
Your assessment identifies whether you have an assistive technology need and the level of funding appropriate to that need.
How much funding is available for assistive technology?
| Assistive technology tier | Funding |
|---|---|
| Low | Up to $513 |
| Medium | Up to $2,052 |
| High | Up to $15,390 |
| Above high tier | Additional funding may be available where assessed needs require it and appropriate evidence is provided |
Funding amounts and program requirements can change. The amount available to you will depend on your assessment and approved needs.
What mobility equipment can Support at Home fund?
The AT-HM scheme covers a broad range of products and equipment designed to help eligible participants remain safe and independent.
Depending on your assessed needs, this may include mobility and assistive technology such as:
- mobility scooters
- manual and powered wheelchairs
- walking and mobility aids
- lift and recline chairs
- adjustable and home care beds
- pressure care and positioning equipment
- other eligible assistive technology.
Not every product is suitable or fundable for every person. Equipment must meet the requirements of the AT-HM scheme and relate to your assessed needs.
What does "Support at Home" mean on a Motobility product?
You may see Support at Home information displayed on some products on the Motobility website.
This information can include the relevant product classification or ISO code to help identify where a product may fit within the Support at Home Assistive Technology and Home Modifications scheme.
Displaying Support at Home information does not mean the product is automatically funded or approved for you. Eligibility for assistive technology depends on your individual assessment, needs and the requirements of the Support at Home program.
How do I access Support at Home?
1. Contact My Aged Care
If you're new to government-funded aged care, the first step is to contact My Aged Care and apply for an assessment.
2. Complete your aged care assessment
Your assessment considers your needs, circumstances and goals and determines which aged care services and supports you may be eligible to receive.
3. Receive your assessment outcome
If you're eligible for Support at Home, your assessment outcome will identify your approved supports. If you have assistive technology or home modification needs, your assessment can identify these and determine the appropriate AT-HM tier.
4. Explore suitable equipment
If mobility or assistive technology has been identified as part of your needs, Motobility can work with you, your provider and healthcare professional to explore suitable equipment.
5. Trial and select the right equipment
Depending on the product, we can arrange showroom or in-home demonstrations, provide quotes and product information, and help ensure the equipment selected is appropriate for your requirements.
Will I need to contribute towards the cost?
You may need to contribute towards the cost of assistive technology.
Under Support at Home, assistive technology is treated as an independence service for participant contribution purposes. The amount you contribute depends on your individual circumstances, including your income and assets assessment.
Your Support at Home provider can explain the contribution that applies to you before equipment is supplied.
Do I need an Occupational Therapist?
It depends on the equipment and your individual circumstances.
Some assistive technology requires assessment, prescription or supporting evidence from an appropriately qualified health professional. Requirements vary depending on the type and complexity of equipment.
Where professional input is required, Motobility can work with your Occupational Therapist or other healthcare professional during product selection and trials.
